What is Torah?

Did you know that the Bible is actually portioned out into weekly readings?  People have been following this cycle for thousands of years.  I thought it would be good to inform my readers about this cycle that has stood the test of time.

Torah actually stands for the first 5 books of the Bible: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.  These books are broken into segments of weekly readings that also include other books in the Old Testament, which I like to call the Holy Scriptures.

Now I have in my possession, a Chronological Bible that follows a timeline, study Bibles that direct me to understand certain points in Scripture, and numerous versions of the Bible, but never have I felt so grounded and gained so much insight and understanding until I started reading the weekly cycle of Torah.

Did you know you can find the Lord in these Scriptures? Possibly hidden before but when He peeks through those sentences and reveals Himself to you, wow...that sends a jolt that brings life to your soul!

Study to show yourself approved.  I went to church, took copious notes, bought concordances, studied certain Hebrew words.  I love words.  I am nerdy enough to admit that I have poured through the dictionary!  But somehow, after hearing a sermon or trying to follow someone's interpretation of a certain point, I felt I just didn't get it.  That surely must have been my own fault, since this pastor was a "man of God", right? God showed them, right?  Surely, this is truth! But after awhile, if you're not careful, you find it is easy to follow a person and then get complacent and lose your true walk with the Lord.  The next thing you know, something happens and you realize (whoops), I no longer want to learn from man's viewpoint. I have missed the mark! So now, it is time to get right with the Lord, reach out and grab onto His Hand and start over. It's that easy!

I have discovered that reading the Torah has deep meaning, it has the answers to living a life truly worth living.  It answers the question of what preserving a life truly means. It never grows old.  You won't tire of it, instead you will get hooked on it. You can wrap yourself up in it, it will carry you through the toughest of times. Torah will light the path of righteousness that He has prepared for you.

I am very grateful for the Jewish people. I learned that Torah is not just Scriptures for them but actual words from God's very own heart on right living for all of us.  I am grateful that they fearfully protected His Word and carefully kept it, through the ages. Through them, our roots are nourished to grow deep, bearing much fruit for our generation. Without God's chosen people, we would not have the truth that these Scriptures teach. Torah applies equally to us today as the day they were given to Moses on Mount Sinai.

Remember when Yeshua (Jesus) spoke with two of His disciples on the road to Emmaus? When He said in the Scriptures, "beginning at Moses", He was actually referring to the Torah and speaking about Himself. This means beginning at Genesis and going all the way through to the Prophets and the Writings, they speak about Him! That's Torah. I just can't get away from repeating myself about this truth.  He's there and I never saw Him until now.

So why isn't it taught in church?  Why have there been so many layers of fluff and re-direction that we're not taught that He is truly in the Holy Scriptures?

For sure, the time has come for everything that was darkened will be exposed in the Light. Light scatters the darkness, it has to flee. I see this Truth popping out everywhere, like a change of seasons where leaves, buds, and life appear all at once under the sun. Sonshine, His light removing the scales from our sleepy eyes.  Revelation bringing an awakening to our Jewish roots. Yeshua came to bring life and life more abundantly! This is a time to grow together and build upon Judaism's age old growth that has stood the test of time.  A time to be grafted in. A time to bridge the broken gap of Jew and Gentile that has laid bare for far too long.

Even as seasons change, are you ready for a new season in your life? Let's learn Torah together, are you with me?

  1. I think we forget that when our Savior walked amongst His disciples there was only the Torah, or better yet the Tanak, which is the Torah “Law”, or Pentateuch, the Prophets, and the :Writings”
It was from these our Savior spoke and clarified. He is the Living Word who came to show us how to walk. He says over and over to all his disciples “Follow me”. Follow who? The Living Word
If He is the Living Word, how then can man say it is no longer relevant or He is nailed to the cross and the “Word/Law” is no longer or God forbid dead. Then you are saying that He is dead and did not raise, for He is the Living Word. He not only came to show us how to walk in the Word but to make Atonement for when we fall short and Repent and turn back to Him. Is not this the Love that is spoken so clearly in both the Tanak and the Gospels.
[1Jo 5:2 KJV] 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
    [Deu 7:9 KJV] 9 Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he [is] God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;

What or who do you Follow?
[Mat 4:19 KJV] 19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
[Jhn 10:27 KJV] 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
[Jhn 12:26 KJV] 26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will [my] Father honor.
